The hiking route from Neo Elatochori, Pieria to the chapel of Ai Neri (Agioneri) is one of the most beautiful, short and passable nature trails in the Pierian Mountains.
🌲 The Route & The Path
Starting Point: The stone-built path starts from the south side of Neo Elatochori.
Duration: The hike takes about 30 min
Landscape: The route runs alongside flowing water, passing through the impressive, lush green Elatochori Gorge. The surroundings are rich in dense vegetation, offering a unique sense of serenity.
⛪ The Chapel of Ai Neri (Agioneri)
Location: The trail leads to a clearing of exceptional beauty at the Ai Neri site, where the chapel of the same name stands.
History & Tradition: According to local tradition, Saint Anthony lived as an ascetic at this spot (in a small cave or beneath the rocks).
Holy Water: Water constantly trickles down from the rock overhang above the church—hence the name *Agioneri* or *Ai Neri* (meaning "Holy Water")—which the faithful regard as sanctified water.
