6: Litochoro → Enipeas Gorge → Prionia

Enipeas Gorge

Starting from the center of Litochoro we follow the signs to Tavern Mili where we will find a small parking area. (If we walk from the center it is about 15 minutes). After entering the gorge, we will find shortly the trail on the left. We will ascent a bit and then we will get in the forest. The track is constantly changing from ascent to descent (between 500 and 700 meters). After reaching the river level we will cross the river a couple of times though the wooden bridges. The track is beautiful with no technical difficulties but a bit tiring (it is easier to do it the other way). The time (4:30 hours) was done with slightly fast walking

Tips:

- There is no cell phone reception during the whole trek, not even at Prionia

- There is a tavern at Prionia, closing at afternoon

- Since 2017 there are two buses from Litochoro to Prionia, one in the morning and one in the afternoon.

- Most of the track is in the forest, so heat and the sun is not an issue

- We can find drinking water at the beginning and the end of the track 

Prionia - Mountain refuge - Prionia

Parking at Prionia is free, but you should arrive as early as possible due to the limited number of spaces. Although the trail from Prionia to the mountain refuge is not continuously marked, you will find signs indicating the correct direction at junctions. The path is well-maintained and easy to follow. If in doubt, you can always use a navigation app for assistance. The mountain refuge operates from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. and is well-stocked; however, securing accommodation is difficult, so you need to book several months in advance.
